The Shot.

I have never had a flu shot before. Ever. Stella has never had a flu shot before. Trevor has never had a flu shot before. We are all flu shot virgins, well until yesterday. Stella's daycare required that she get both the seasonal flu vaccine and the h1n1. We went to the doctor in September and she got her flu shot then. It was traumatic to say the very least. 8 weeks later she is still telling me "I go to the doctor mommy, he make me strong but hurt my leg. I got a purple sucker. But I not crying anymore." Everyday, I kid you not, she tells me this.
When the h1n1 vaccine came to Utah I was making Trevor come with me to hold her. I didn't want to be the bad guy once again. But after several failed attempts at waiting in line with all the other thousands of people we didn't get it. Trevor told me not to worry about, mind over matter...hmmm..... Then we went to church and my entire primary class was gone because they all had the swine flu; (so I went home and had a diet coke...) My brother and his family all got the swine flu. Ash and baby Will had it. Then the neighborhood gossip told me that 1 in 4 kids at the elementary school had it. Being as I am 27 weeks pregnant with a 2 year old, I decided that we needed the vaccine. But where to get it? No where in Utah. All out. Until yesterday. The health department got it together and decided that it wouldn't be a good idea to administer 7,000 doses in one day again. Not to smart to make people wait in line in the freezing cold for hours and hours and hours. They made appointments. Such a novel idea if you ask me. Stella and were able to snag 2 appointments yesterday and well "She's not crying anymore." I held Stella while she got the shot, and she held my hand while I got it. Then we went to the gas station for a sucker, because why would the county health department have suckers to give to the 2 year olds after they have been stabbed? Why would we have that?
Hopefully we don't get the swine flu. I feel like if we are going to get it, we would have already had it, but we vaccinated just in case. Its the responsible thing to do. My mom came down with the nasty thing and she has quarantined herself. I think she likes being alone and has a very good alibi for getting out of long church meetings and such. But I'd rather have her home alone than coughing on my pregnant belly and kissing my 2 year old.
I hope all of you are not coughing on my pregnant belly and kissing my 2 year old, but if you do, thats gross, but ok cause we've had our shots.
